Employee Spotlight: Lead Adrenal Surgery Tech Chrisnailil Delgado
To celebrate we're spotlighting our lead adrenal surgery technician, Chrisnailil Delgado! Chrisnailil works closely with Dr. Tobias Carling every day and is an integral part of the Carling Adrenal Center team.
Check out the Q&A below to learn a bit more about Chrisnailil.
- Tell us about your background and how you ended up working in healthcare.
I have always wanted to become a veterinarian but I also wanted to be exposed to surgery sooner and not after Vet school which is why I enrolled in a surgical technologist program. From there I was lucky enough to be hired right away at the facility where I did my clinical hours and learned a lot about different surgery specialties, ENT being one of my favorites at that time. Soon after I was being introduced into endocrine surgery. - What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I appreciate most about my job is being able to learn a great deal about the human anatomy every single day. I’m also working in a field full of doctors and experts that are approachable and always willing to teach. For me education is an important thing in my life, and I’m lucky enough to be able to obtain that every single day at work. - What makes the Carling Adrenal Center special?
Carling adrenal center is special because we take a different approach in surgery than the rest of the surgeons operating in the adrenals. Most of the surgeons feel the absolute need to do an open procedure trans abdominal (which is invasive and can be stressful cases), while here at Carling Adrenal Center we can dissect and take a tumor out with only three small ports on the back of the patient. Taking a minimally invasive approach makes the surgery a very efficient and straightforward procedure which I will always appreciate and I’m sure all patients do as well. - Can you tell me a particularly rewarding patient experience you remember?
This particular patient was a special one because she was pregnant and we were all concerned about mom and the baby. Her primary doctor advised her to consider aborting the baby before surgery to avoid complications, but our team is competent enough to perform the surgery on her which lasted only 30 minutes with zero complications. Everything went smooth and easy, that day we ended up saving two lives in one procedure.
